“And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age”. (Matthew 28:18-20, NKJV)
The above passage it often referred to as ‘the great commission’. The place where Jesus commands us to make disciples of all nations, amongst other things.
So how do we go about making disciples? As much as some would try to argue otherwise, it is impossible for someone to become a disciple of unless one knows about Jesus and makes a decision to follow Jesus.. Most of the time this means we who know Jesus, have to tell those who don’t about Him. This is evangelism. It’s something some of us really don’t like, but it is something that all of us are required to do.
I realise I’m generalising here, but why is it that the majority of the body of Christ is frightened to evangelise? Is it that we’re not sure enough of our faith to share it to others? Or is it that we’re happy sitting in out pews every week happy in our salvation whilst the world around us is gradually dying under their weight of their sin?
Whatever it is, as all Christians the responsibility still rests with us to tell others about Jesus and to give them the opportunity to respond to him. The fear of losing a friend is not a valid excuse for not evangelising. As far as I’m concerned, a true friend would tell their friends about the Salvation that they can have through Christ Jesus.
Let’s work on our evangelism. Perhaps you’re new to evangelism. How about starting by sharing you’re testimony with someone who doesn’t know Jesus? Start by telling them what Jesus has done for you and give them the chance to respond and accept Jesus themselves.
Or perhaps you’re in ministry and are looking at ways to get you’re part of the body to evangelise. If so, would you consider hosting a Go For Souls Conference? Check out our site for further information.
Friends, let’s continue to fight for souls no matter where we are or whatever situation we find ourselves in. The world needs Jesus. He is the only way one can be saved. Let’s tell them.
